vIsualize

ABOUT THE PROJECT

vIsualize is an analytics app that allows VMware's engineers to, bare with me, "visualize" stats around their Flings (think Google Labs). vIsualize offers stats like downloads per day and geographical downloads. vIsualize is STILL IN PROGRESS!

WHY

While at my internship at VMware in the summer of 2011, I built an app that tracked where our users were downloading our software. vIsualize was a cool way to show off these stats.

TOOLS USED

Ruby/Rails, JS, Google Charts API, Cron, Haml, Sass

Sirkel App

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Sirkel, Norwegian for "circle", is a geolocation-based chat client where users login and see those nearby overlaid on a Google map. By simply clicking on each others' icon, users can chat with each other real time.

WHY

While at my internship at VMware in the summer of 2011, interns were offered the chance to compete by building the most unique and well-designed webapp, and then push it to VMware's new PaaS, CloudFoundry. I came up with Sirkel. Sirkel took the grand prize in a contest that was between all interns in the Americas.

TOOLS USED

Ruby/Rails, Pusher, JS, Google Maps v3 API, Facebook Auth API, Javascript & jQuery, HTML (HAML), CSS (SCSS), Blueprint Grid, Adobe Suite, Git

Google Map Download Tracker

ABOUT THE PROJECT

GMDT is a custom-built (and yet-to-be-released) Wordpress plugin which detects a users' click on a certain link, records the time, and then notes their IP address. Later, their geolocation is calculated and the position/timing of their download is overlayed on a Google Map.

WHY

My boss at VMware wanted something similar to Mappos (Google that).

TOOLS USED

PHP, Wordpress, Google Maps v3 API, HTML, CSS, Javascript & jQuery, Git

First Presbyterian Church San Luis Obispo Website

ABOUT THE PROJECT

FPCSLO's website was overhauled in 2010. This is where I worked as a youth pastor for 3 years.

WHY

I approached the staff of FPCSLO (as a member myself) to tell them I'd be willing to build out a website if they were willing to hire a design firm to design it. I sliced up the PSD and ported the design to Drupal. We figured if I did the development work, we could save the church a substantial amount of money.

TOOLS USED

Drupal, Javascript, Photoshop

WHY

Stuff In My Pocket was built out of a desire to dabble with HTML5/CSS/Javascript technologies on the iPhone.

Save the Bay Brochure

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Save The Bay is the largest regional organization working to protect, restore and celebrate San Francisco Bay. In 2011, they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

WHY

At VMware, service learning is a HUGE deal (basically volunteering with non-profits). My intern team was paired with Save the Bay, and part of our task was to make a brochure for them to use at various events. I took the challenge up to design the brochure, with input from the entire team of interns.
